Bo then decided to turn his hobby into a professional venture.
Deeply rooted in the old style analog audio world and enjoying all the amazing products in his business, both from the sales side of things but also as a repair guy and a designer of electronics and loudspeakers, a dream to be able to offer the classic and very musical sound qualities at an affordable price point grew stronger and stronger.
The fulfillment of that dream was the creation of the Golden Age Project brand. Having a humble start with several ribbon mic models, the big breakthrough came in 2006 when the PRE-73 preamp was released, it became an instant success and it is still selling very well in its present MKIII version.
New products have been constantly added to the range that now consists of a good number of mics and outboard units. Two of the most recent ones is the COMP-3A, a clone of the revered LA-3A that has received rave reviews, and the first tube based GAP product, the COMP-2A, based on the LA-2A, that was released in early 2017.

The FC 1 MKII is a high quality large capsule condenser microphone, inspired by classical microphone models. It is is very a versatile microphone with a wide frequency response and a large dynamic range. It will perform great in the studio or in live sound and broadcast applications.

The R 2 MkII is quite different from the R 1 series of mics. It features a ribbon transducer with a shorter and more narrow ribbon. It is darker sounding than the R 1 series since the higher frequencies roll off earlier.

Golden Age Project Pre-73 MK2 Vintage Microphone Pre Amplifier
The Golden Age Pre-73 MKII is new and improved with a lower noise floor, and greater dynamic range. New features include an added rear-panel insert for EQ and dynamics processing. The Golden Age Pre-73 MKII provides a low cost alternative to microphone pre-amplification featuring a fully discrete signal path by utilizing separate transformers for the balanced mic input, the line input and the output. Similar to the circuit you would find in the Neve 1073 preamp/EQ with a remarkably similar output.
The versatile sound of the Golden Age Pre-73 MKII works incredibly with most sound sources and in most genres. The Golden Age Project Pre-73 MKII has a maximum gain of 80 dB on the mic input and the gain range on the Line input is -20 to + 10 dB.

Golden Age Project Pre-73 MKII also offers a high-impedance instrument input making it the perfect solution for nearly any signal source whether for mics with a higher or lower sensitivity, synthesizers, sound modules or an electric guitar or bass.
The input impedance of the microphone input can be switched between 300 and 1200 ohms, which makes it possible to affect the tone of most microphones. There is also phase switch and an simple 4-step LED signal level meter.
The output level control makes it possible to make fine gain adjustments and also to overload the main gain stage for more character and then lower the signal to a suitable level before the output stage.

The Golden Age Project PRE73 Jr is the little brother to our big seller, the PRE73. It uses the same discrete (no IC's) signal path with a transformer balanced in and output. In order to be able to offer this classic and musical sound character at an even more affordable price point, we did scale down on some features that is seldom used. All the things needed for making great sounding recordings are there and the smaller format makes it possible to mount four units in our 19 inch rack kit, the UNITE MKII.Features:
The COMP-3A is a one channel vintage style Compressor / Leveler. The signal path uses only discrete components like resistors, capacitors and transistors. The input and output is transformer balanced, using two different transformers, each one optimized for its purpose. This is the way audio components were built before integrated circuits became available.
Integrated circuits are small and cheap and widely used in most modern designs. The drawback is that audio components built with modern technology doesn't always provide the best perceived sound quality or the type of character that the modern user desires.
The subjective sound quality delivered by vintage equipment is often prefered over the one delivered by modern units, a situation that is even more obvious now when music is recorded with clean-sounding digital audio equipment.
This is the reason why so many vintage audio components are cloned and produced again and also why the vintage originals are often very expensive on the second hand market.
The circuit used in the COMP-3A is based on a classic design that uses an electro-luminescent panel and a photoelectric cell to control gain. This gives the COMP-3A a unique, program dependent compression characteristics. In addition, the vintage style signal path adds a wonderful and musical character to the sound. The ease of use with only two main controls makes it very simple to achieve the desired sound. These attributes has made the original units a favourite of engineers and musicians worldwide.

An updated version of its amazingly popular sibling, the Golden Age PRE573MKII is here to impress with updated features and more power than ever.
The PRE-573 has a dedicated insert connector at the back allowing it to interface with other GAP 500 modules. The insert can be activated by removing a jumper connector at the back of the module.
There is a second jumper at the back of the module that selects 600 ohm termination on the output. The standard mode is termination on, since it gives the flattest response when the PRE-573 is used with modern line inputs that typically has an input impedance of 10 kohm or more. The user can chose to remove the jumper and deactivate the termination resistor, this will increase the level above 10 kHz and create a peak in the response for an even more pronounced "Air" effect.
The output is transformer balanced and fully floating and can drive a 600 ohm load up to level of about 28 dBu.
